Pulau Bunting Bridge ( Jambatan Pulau Bunting )
Pulau Bunting Bridge ( Jambatan Pulau Bunting ) is located in Yan district, Kedah.
It was built in the year between 2002 to 2005 by the Malaysian Public Works Department (JKR) while the main contractor was Gamuda Berhad.
The bridge connects the island, Pulau Bunting to the mainland of Kedah. Bridge design type is an arch cable-stayed bridge with a main suspended span of 80 m in length and approach spans of pre-cast concrete box beam spans of 30 m in length. Its width is measured at 13.0 m wide.
The total span length across the island is 2.3 km long, comprises of :
Causeway (island to the bridge)=0.1 km, Bridge=1.8 km and Causeway (mainland to the bridge) =0.4 km.
Sadly, the bridge is now remains underused since it became a white elephant and has been widely criticised for the facts that it had served no purpose of linking to an unpopulated island which incurred a project cost of RM 7 billion.
If you happen to fly into Alor Setar , take a window seat and keep a sharp lookout from your window a few minutes before you land at Kepala Batas airport for you could catch a glimpse of the bridge.
